What is AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)?

AEO is optimization for AI-powered answer engines like ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Claude. While traditional SEO focuses on ranking in search results, AEO ensures your brand gets cited when AI systems answer questions in your category. When someone asks “What’s the best CRM for startups?” or “How does [your product] compare to [competitor]?”, AEO makes sure AI recommends your brand—not just your category.

How is AEO different from traditional SEO?

Traditional SEO gets you ranked on search results. AEO gets you cited as the answer. Here’s the difference: SEO optimizes for clicks from blue links (remember those?). AEO optimizes for being the source AI systems pull from, extract, and recommend. This means improved content structures, updated technical foundations, and a focus on answer-worthy content instead of keyword-heavy pages. The good news is that AEO and SEO work together, as what helps AI understand your content usually helps Google too.

How long until we see results?

Most clients see their first AI citations within 60-90 days. Unlike traditional SEO, which can take 6-12 months to show meaningful results, AEO often moves faster because AI systems update their knowledge more frequently than search engines recrawl the web.
